Changpeng Zhao ("CZ") founded Binance in 2017 and built it into the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume within 180 days of launch. Born in China and raised in Canada, CZ grew up in poverty and worked at McDonald's before becoming one of the world's wealthiest people at crypto's peak. In 2023, Binance and CZ pleaded guilty to US federal charges related to anti-money laundering violations. CZ served four months in a US prison and stepped down as Binance CEO in 2023.
